Laptop Issues
« on: June 17, 2012, 09:35:07 pm »

I seem to use these forums intermittently at best, but oh well...

On to the problem. A couple days ago, I think I did something screwy when I turned on my laptop (I forget exactly what I did), so the screen decided to cycle through a bunch of colors. To be more specific, it would show a solid red screen for a few seconds, then do the same for blue, then white, and so on. After a few seconds of worriedly holding down the power button, it shut down and was able to boot up again fine (though a little slowly).

Now, for some strange reason, I can't change the brightness settings. I have absolutely no idea why, but a couple checkdisks (that fixed what are, I think, a few unrelated issues) and some driver updates have not fixed it. (Another little thing that probably isn't even related is that once in a while the fan seem to change speeds every few seconds, but I can't remember if it's done that before.) By itself, this isn't much of a problem, but I'm worried it could be a symptom of a much worse problem. Any idea what the hell happened?

I'm on a Dell XPS L501X (I think that's the model) running a 64bit install of Windows 7. If anyone has any idea what the problem could be and needs more specs, just ask.

EDIT: It just started working again for no reason. Locking thread now.
