Rise of Flight - WW1 flight sim
« on: June 25, 2012, 05:46:41 am »

Okay guys, your F2PMMO messenger is back and here's a story. When looking at videos of War Thunder and Red Baron (the movie) on YouTube, I stumbled upon Rise of Flight.

Rise of Flight offers the same concept as War Thunder, except that it is set in WW1. The graphics are beautiful and people have praised its realism and its helpful community. I am still downloading it as I am writing this but I am wondering if any of you have played it?

See it yourself here:

On GamersGate there is a paid package you can get:

EDIT: Sorry it's not purely F2P, you must spend money to buy more aircrafts. However, once you have them, you can actually play them offline and online. Each aircraft costs about $7 to $15. The F2P bit of the game is explained below:

Code: [Select]
Welcome to the Free2Play version of Rise of Flight! This version of Rise of Flight can be played for an unlimited time and features two flyable aircraft with full access to all their features. This should not be viewed as just a simple demo, but more as a beginner version of the Full game. All features are the same with the only difference being the number of add-on content that is included.

The Free2Play version includes the following:
— Flyable SPAD 13 and Albatros D.Va including
— Includes Field Modifications and Weapon Modifications for each plane.
— Includes a Pilot Scarf and Streamer for each plane.
— Full Access to Single Player and Multiplayer Modes for each aircraft.
— Full Access to Career Mode for each aircraft.
— Full Access to Gunner Positions in Bombers and Recon Aircraft in Multiplayer.

I'm normally not into flight sims but I have a soft spot for WW1 era planes. I might keep an eye on this although 50 dollars for all the content seems a little excessive to me.

Any idea if it's just dog fighting? Having some kind of AI land controlled units on the ground could keep things interesting. As far as I know the Red Baron was shot down by ground forces.

As a fan of all things "old" and "flight simulationy", I can tell you this is a great game :) I got it when it still wasn't F2P, but unfortunately it barely runs on my stupid old laptop.

You only do get a couple of planes, but 1) the game isn't pay-to-win, 2) you can't fly those planes but can fly against them, 3) it's the only business model that keeps their company afloat, 4) there are plenty of sales where you can aircraft for cheaper, and 5) those guys are really interested in simulation, not arcade. They're into this stuff, hardcore :)

The game is free, there is no reason not to give it a try. They do have bombers, and there are entire squads playing it. I'm not sure how the online is, but expect interesting dogfights and bombing targets as far as I know :)

Also, if you can watch the following video and not immediately want to try it out, my hat is off to you!

Tried it last night with mouse and keyboard and I sucked so much, lol.

I knew joystick would be necessary (and preferably TrackIR) but I just wanted to see how much fail I could generate.

Really considering to buy a joystick if we get a big group playing any of these flight sims, especially Rise of Flight, IL '46, and War Thunder.

So basically it's IL 2 Sturmovik, but ww1 and gorgeous graphics? I absolutely adore ww1 history, but my computer sucks ass... Now they just need to make a realistic trench simulator  :)

And then combine it all into a single, marvelously detailed and complete package. You can stay in your trench, knee deep in mud and piss. If you don't mind, I'll just drop bombs on you fellows! Haha!

BuriBuri: there seems to be very little interest in flight sims unfortunately, but I'd love if that could happen at some point!
