Vampire quest guide
« on: June 15, 2012, 09:42:39 am »

Reached the next tier quest, and was assigned a kill vampire quest. Browsed these forums and googled to find the best way to find and expose night creatures. The best I could find was this:

Quote
HOW TO:
1.spam service reading passively for vampire
2. proceed to said town
3. ask for service the person you ask will direct you in a certain direction
4. search houses in this direction for a guy who has same animation as you(the blue highlighting)or ask again for further directions
5. accuse them of being a vampire if its a vampire they get pissed off and attack

I guess my problem is that step 3 does not work for me. I got the quest (step 1?), I proceeded to the correct town using the quest map (step 2), I ask some of the locals for service (step 3), but instead of helping me locate the vampire, they give me 20 quests. Every townsperson I ask for service happily reiterates those 20 quests.

Is there a relatively simple and consistent way to find and expose night creatures? It feels like the answer is either 'no', or that the few people who know the answer are leaving out crucial details when describing how to go about it.

Any chance a vampire hunter can give a precise description of how to find and expose night creatures? Being able to locate the correct house (as described above) seems to be the tricky bit.

Are you sure you're in the right settlement?

I know it sounds like a daft question, but there might be two or three hamlets in the same area - perhaps you got the wrong one?

Normally, asking locals about a vampire-in-hiding will clue you in to the direction you are to follow. Of course, your vampire might not be in disguise - if s/he is hiding in a sewer, crypt, or dungeon, then you'll have to head there to find them - in which case good luck because those are some terribly tedious tunnels you will be searching.

The Directions you have there are good if you get a vampire hunting quest from some run of a mill peasant, but if you get a vampire hunting quest from a Lord, be prepared for a lot of searching around. I will assume that your Vampire isn't hiding in the Sewers, Crypts, or Dungeon (since if they are then you need to search in those areas for him. Now, for the two different types of ways to get the quest:

From a Peasant (like a regular Bone Carver or Weaponsmith) -

1. Simply get the quest and proceed to the town said Vampire is in. (Skip this step if he is in said town)
2. Talk to a Peasant in said town and he should tell you about the infiltrator, and the direction/shop/house to look in. (Skip this step if he doesn't give a direction)
3. Talk to Peasants along the way until you reach a house where they don't give you a direction/shop/house to look in. At this point, note the name of the Vampire.
4. Scan the room for flashing icons (at least in Ironhand or Phoebus Tilesets). Talk to them and see if the name they give you matches up with the Vampire. *Note that some might just be Warlords or Lords*
Bonus. If the name is the same as the Vampire, and is a Soldier type, abandon the quest of killing him. Recruit the Vampire Soldier into your Party instead (never accuse him of being a Vampire). You will now have a far stronger soldier who won't drown in rivers or sewers, will be ignored by the undead, and lots of other nice stuff.
5. If name is the same as the suspected Vampire, accuse him and he should tell you to prepare to die.

From a Lord (Guys in Forts, Keeps, and so forth) -

1. Simply get the quest and proceed to the town said Vampire is in. Remember to note the name or review it in your quest log.
2. Search house to house for flashing icons. Talk to them to see if their name matches up with the Vampire.
3. If name is the same as the suspected Vampire, accuse him and he should tell you to prepare to die.
