The Brave Recruit
« on: September 22, 2012, 02:41:12 pm »

I have been playing this game for a while, but I have been busy with school, so it has been mostly working through the first two years and learning the system,s.  I finally started a fortress which I will take to the end.  I set up a small five man team to protect against ambushes.  Shortly after, a group of five goblins appeared in my pastures and killed a donkey.  I sent the squad after them.  It was a quick battle.  Most of the goblins fled, but one swordsmen got into a fight and killed one of my soldiers and cut the arm off of another before he was put down.  Later, as I was burring him, I noticed his name still on dwarf therapist.  I even found him in the game.  It was then that I realized that I had recruited the wrong soldier!  I had tired to recruit men with weapon skills, but two dwarves had the same first name and I picked someone with no skill at all! He was the first dwarf to engage the enemy, and he fought to the despite having no skill at all.  The swordsman was pretty awesome as well.  When I saw he had lost an arm, I thought he was going to need a hospital visit.  But when I checked on him, he just felt a little faint, and was soon back in the barracks sparring.  I love this game!

Sounds like one tough bugger, but, shouldn't he have died from bleeding out?

He should have, but there was no bleeding at all.  In fact, I didn't even know he was wounded till I was reading through the battle report.  He just felt faint and a little thirsty.  The recruit bled to death, but the swordsman was fine (aside from the wound).

Well then, you appear to have gotten the better half of a bug
