Thanks for an epic game
« on: May 31, 2012, 04:13:25 am »

Hey guys, I just downloaded Dwarf Fortress (Lazy Newb Pack), and I was almost immediately addicted. Admitedly I'm still lost but the wiki helps. Anyway as goldless dwarf, I have no way of donating though I sincerly would. So I thought I would just say thanks.

I don't represent Bay 12 Games or anything, but I'd like to tell you about the best DF tutorial I've seen. Many people have learned to play from it, myself included. Afterwards, just wiki ;) http://afteractionreporter.com/2009/02/09/the-complete-and-utter-newby-tutorial-for-dwarf-fortress-part-1-wtf/

By that logic, you shouldn't be able to play dwarves because they don't show thinking ability.

Thank you both. +1 to you guys.

This tutorial is so good, and your right its deffinately the best tutorial I've read. The whole stairs thing really confused me but this clears it up.
I love the trial and error of this game, and the motto, Losing is Fun.

This doesnt really belong in suggestions. It is better located in dwarf mode discussion. I also started playing using the comlete utter... tutorial. It made so much sense to me using that. The military, healthcare, and little nuances added later (after version 40d, which the tutorial is for) make the game a lot harder to grasp (but better).
Head over to gameplay questions http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?board=7.0
or The wiki http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Main_Page
and you will do fine. (With some work and a lot of !FUN!)

Whoops I had the feeling it didnt belong here i was going to suggest an official thank you thread.
Anyway, its surprising that this game has more depth than a majority if not every other game I've played.
So I'll throw this in as  a suggestion for gameplay as well, a legend (no not the mode) like looking at any map you need a key to figure out what your looking at.. I know the solution is pressing 'k' to look around, but the other day i had a dwarf flipp out, (which i now know was happening) because of a flashing grey down arrow on a red background.
