Ah, well. I saw AVG being ruthless and stupid long ago.

Since 2003 I have used multiple antiviruses, starting with

Norton Systemworks 2003 - 2005. Was brilliant to begin with, until Norton began pushing bloaty-spy-y updates, and our subscription expired.
Clamwin Free. 2005 - 2010. Free, originally Linux antivirus, was quite good. Often came up with false positives but scanned quickly and removed well.

While looking for a new firewall after Zonealarm cacked itself and stopped working, I decided to try AVG out on the old PC. The old PC met its requirements.
Installed, ran, FALSE POSITIVES EVERYWHERE. ALERT, EVERYTHING APPEARS TO BE A VIRUS.

Yeah, no.... uninstall. Wait, what's this, the uninstaller doesn't remove all of AVG? Even after the uninstall finished, I still have an AVG process running in memory, EVEN AFTER A REBOOT?
That's spyware behaviour, that is. Force kill the process. Massive instability.

FUUUUUUUu-----
Thankfully due to the massive external drive I had I was able to rollback the PC to a time before AVG. Never again.

Instead came across Comodo, and haven't used anything but it since. It's fantastic.

As for the rickrolling, there is NO way it can be censored. The entire definition on memes is that they spread virulently.
And as was said, to censor a meme is censoring culture and ideas, and is very Big Brother/Orwellian...

Well, here comes Anonymous. Good luck, AVG.

In all likelihood, google was just using AVG. That or AVG has youtube spiders, for some bizarro reason. Or they thought the DMCA is a free advertising method.

I have a feeling that if it was kept down, 4chan would have responded with the force of 1,000 dying suns, all going supernova at once.

Are all these loose Internet groups like Anonymous and 4chan as powerful as so many imply?

I wholeheartedly dislike using the term "Anonymous" in the context of a group of "hacktivists", but these fellas keep ruining the name for everyone involved and refuse to get some other moniker. But they've got their experts, let me tell you that - can't cite sources, but the actual inner circle is some ten people total. The rest is just volunteers coming and going over time.

Oh, and on topic - my theory is that AVG thought they could get away with it, somehow, yet ran another check and backed down. That's why it's back so soon.

Anonymous is really just an extremely loose-woven group of people who survive on 'mob rule'.

Things like LOIC have made it far, far too easy for them to attack websites and their companies.

4chan are just a message board with some infamy. Moot has forbidden raids, hence why some anons splintered off, LABELING themselves anons, where other anons are just 4chan users.

Moot doesn't really care much about raids, since people still use /b/ to organize raids all of the time. But the "hacktavist" anonymous is different from the actual anonymous.
