Axes, swords, spears, maces and all dwarven weapons are not multigrap and will not suffer any kind of penalty for being used with only one hand. Even when there is a empty grasp, they'll be wielded single handledly.

I guess the general feeling is shields are good anyways :p I'll go with it.
