How to knock unconscious

My miner has a broken leg from a cave in, and can't move. 'ability to stand lost'. Nobody brings him to the hospital for a crutch and diagnosis, because he is not unconscious if i am correct. So is there any techniques that WILL NOT kill him (he is one of my legendary miners) but will knock him out so they can recover wounded?

I don't believe they need to be unconscious to be carried off, I vaguely remember my miners getting hauled off after dropping with a cave-in, they weren't unconscious, as far as i remember, just injured as hell with broken bones and stuff. Maybe make sure no one's sleeping in the hospital beds or something? If you're right about needing him to be unconscious I think maybe you can drop him a z-level down and maybe the fractures will cause him to pass out from the pain. (Kind of defeats the purpose of wanting him hauled off to get treated though)

Maybe the job was passed to Urist McFaraway, and he just has to run trough the entire fortress? You could look in the (j)obs list, if there is a "recover wounded" job listed and if there is a dwarf assigned to it.

You could drop a floor or wall from above him. If it lands near him, the cloud of dust will probably cause some more wounds but at least he'll get a diagnosis request again.

Just let him die and train up another Legendary Miner. Dwarves are expendable.

thats a possibility, as miners arent hard to train...

and with the new droprate change there isn't that much trouble to promote merely skilled, you won't lose more ore

you know what concerns me a little bit? Miners are so important, they basically keep your Fortress running (if you dont want to be a elf-dwarf, blargh) and yet, those are the guys i do care the least.... i loose a legendary miner? I dont care, give one of the useless migrants a pick and send him down in the mine, wait 30 minutes and you have the legendary miner replaced. I loose a legendary weaponsmith? RAGE, endless piles of rage and frus....fun :D

If you have an unsolved crime, you COULD sentence the injured dwarf to a beating. That might knock him out. Or kill him; but he's dead anyway if he doesn't pass out and get taken to the hospital.
