better understanding of DF's UI
« on: May 23, 2012, 02:24:22 pm »

I'm wondering if some guide somewhere explains the complexities of DF's UI.

For example, the Units view ('u'), has some color coding, which seems to be profession based (white related to stone for example), but some of the names also flash, and i have no clue what that means.

I think i'm still not grasping the pasture assignment screen yet, and I'm sure there are others.
I couldn't find that information on the wiki , has anyone seen it elsewhere ?

Flashing units are legendary, which means they've reached level 15 in some skill.

I'm a little confused what you mean with the pasture thing.

However, one simple advice and a motto:

Losing is fun!

Just try stuff, see what it does and learn from your mistakes

pasture screean: greyish [=](don't have the three bars thingy) = assigned a pasture, not on it
white [=] = assigned pasture and on it
a + with [=] = assigned this pasture. Shows at the top of the list

the !! symbols mean they're in a cage, the various colours tell you what kind of material the cage is made of

Was that the question?
