My latest fort I had some issues with the first couple sieges, leaving my fort with about dozen adults and more than 50 children.  I never noticed anywhere near this many children before.  This was early years and not a single child had yet been born in the fort so they were all migrants.  Luckily most children can be assigned labors.  Unluckily wood cutting is not a good option - went on to lose several to snatchers out in the woods.    It takes forever for them to grow up!

What do you mean, no migrant child ever takes even twelve years to grow up. Most become adults long before that. :D

Doesn't quite have the ring of heroics to it...
Mother: "...and after the evil snow butterfly was defeated, Domas and his kitten lived happily ever after!"
Kids: "Yaaaay!"
