Way to turn off vampires and deadly weather?
« on: May 17, 2012, 10:07:18 am »

I see many posts saying "vampires are stupid" and replies saying "just turn them off then", but what is the procedure?

I would also like to know how to keep normal weather - rain and snow - and perhaps keep the various clouds of deadly dust and so on - but turn off the rain which immediately causes fatal (or zombifying) disease as soon as it lands on a dwarf.

This is because I am a rather timid player with a taste for savage evil forest terrain. I like wildlife threats, from things like eagles and harpies, and extravagant engineering to wall in and roof over bits of surface, and aquifer busting (complicated and attention-sapping), and tree farming for wood fuel. I don't need my game spicing up, for now.

Oh, I wouldn't mind knowing how to get rid of the blinking purple eyeball vegetation as well, if possible. It's tacky. Makes me feel like my fortress is situated in a joke shop at halloween.

When you generate a new world, (e) enter advanced parameters.  Set the number of vampire types to zero, and also the number of evil rain types.  ESC out and make the new world.  If you want to make your own custom setup for use over and over again, make a copy first of the size and type of world that you want.  Then edit that one and save the changes.  You can save over the standard setup for a size and type of world, but then you won't have the standard one anymore.  Your choice.   ;)

Set the number of vampire types to zero, and also the number of evil rain types ...

Thanks, it sounds so simple. Last time I looked at advanced world gen (many builds ago) ... oh, I can't remember what was the matter. Maybe the setting names were ambiguous, or I wasn't sure how to make it start generating, or I thought I would need to know and enter the default settings for every single option, or all of the above. It gave me unhappy thoughts, so I had stopped looking at it.
