Bars to Weapons / Armor Costs?

After a successfully repelled zombie invasion created a tantrum spiral, I decided I wanted to try a new fort with a "prepare for journey carefully" embark.

I read that 1 copper axe costs the same as bringing the materials for 6 bronze weapons, yet... I'm not exactly told how much each weapon costs.  From the looks of it, 3 bronze bars (3 copper + 3 tin ores) = either a bronze axe, or bronze pick.

Is there a matrix anywhere that details the cost of other weapons?  I'm going for bare materials on everything so I can bring more ores, but it would be nice to know what I can build with those ores and plan appropriately.

From memory, I believe a mail shirt, costs 4 bars.

lists bar costs for armor, and spells out that size / 3 (rounded down, minimum of 1) = cost in bars

1 bar per weapon, same for weapon trap components.  The formula might come into play when you mod your dwarves to forge very large foreign weapons or otherwise mod a reaction to forge a warhammer the size of an elephant.

bringing bars, a few logs, a few rocks, and a weaponsmith lets you get some quality axes and picks right off the bat.   I always do it.

btw, what qualifies as flux?  I didn't see any mention in the starting embarks about what I could use for flux, or bring for that matter.

Yeah, but that doesn't answer the 2nd part of my question

btw, I'm on the wiki a bunch, so I guess I should have reclarified my question.

Why would a starting build talking about building bronze weapons never mention to bring flux?

That's no longer true - 3 copper ores and 3 tin ores will give you 24 bronze bars once you smelt them.

Just noting that if you're going for minimalism, wood training axes can cut trees. And ... the wagon happens to be wood.

I've been starting with cassiterite ore and basically nothing else but food/drink - works fine if there's a forest and I get an anvil from the first caravan.

I was going to embark with a bronze anvil

but that's a good point about the training axe, I heard that's how it worked in 31.25, haven't tried with 34.xx

That wasn't mentioned in the bronze section I was referring to either...

I'll try it out with no bitomous coal then and see if I can make a carpenter's shop immediately following the deconstruction of my wagon, then make a training axe, then make some charcoal.

Holy Guacomole! I thought I was sooooo clever with my minimal embarks. I bring 10 mushrooms, some pets, some picks and an anvil. A crate of leathers and some thread. My forts easily reach self sufficiency by mid-spring, including food, drink and -clean- water. But that just cuts the cake. I never thought to bring ores. Got-damn! I could have a military set up muchmuch sooner than the (year???) it takes me, now.

Yeah, it's been pretty standard practice for many players to bring along some ore for the initial weapon forging. Usually bronze ores just because it makes for cheap mid range weapons that get smeltered and made fairly quickly. Tin can be difficult to find, especially since ore content got lowered. Now drop rates are lowered but bar-making rates are upped, that embark ore is worth 4x as much.

Does bit. coal get made into coke at 4x the rate it used to? Because bringing 1 copper, 1 tin and 3 bit coal to make 8 bronze weapons at the beginning seems too good to be true. Or would 1 copper, 1 tin just make 4 bronze bars now?

Maybe I should just give it a try.

No, coal makes the same amount of coke as it always had.
