Any good ideas for a world spanning underground?

Well with the release of minecarts, you can use just embark to build a railway that goes across the world. Using just embark, you can partially embark on your old fort and connect the rails.

the trick would be to make sure there will be carts at each exit point always. It would be little use if all the carts sit at one end, or if autolaunched carts to get them to the other side stop once they are out of your area of effect (I assume not the whole world is running all the time), so you'll probably have to make several short tracks

And hope nothing is standing on the rails

and if you didn't design it yourself, that it's not a deathtrap
