I cant find a book or slab of life and death in the tower. is it always there?

is the book or slab of life and death always in the tower full of the undead?my small 5 men army killed all the undead and i searched every single tile and all i find is a book.i grabbed it and put it in my hand. then i read it and i don't have the power to rise the dead yet.bug?or by chance a undead thief took it?

Edit. Oh Jesus Christ, Necro would be proud. The second horse in the caravan came in and immediately caught on fire. I looked into his inventory and found a burning pig tail fiber bag. Curious, I looked inside.

Towers don't always have slabs. An easy may to find slabs is to go through legends mode.
