Upgrading an IBM T-30
« on: May 13, 2012, 08:57:27 am »

So, this is something I started a bit ago.
I started with a refurbished T-30 laptop I got from who-knows-where.
It had a 1.6 Pentium 4 processor, 0.5 GB ram, 20 GB HDD, DVD-ROM drive, a battery that held up 30 minutes, a dock, and misc. stuff.
I added a 1 gb mini DDR-1 plank of memory (it still sees only 1 GB out of the 1.5...) and bought 2 batteries off eBay (one main, one in the UltraBay port instead of the DVD drive, though I can very easily swap between the two!).

One of the problems is the bios has a supervisor (SVP) password, which I don't know. That sucks a lot, since the only way I've seen of "hacking" it involves opening stuff up and messing with reading eeprom, which I hate doing...

My planned upgrades:
 - Buy PCMCIA cards, such as a card reader, or extended wireless + bluetooth, or USB 2.0
 - Buy a larger HDD (I saw a 250 GB one for $150 on ebay, it costs too much IMO :P)
 - Upgrade BIOS, to hopefully get the memory over 1 GB and possibly wipe the supervisor password

Just wanted to post stuff, if you know of any way to help me please reply :D
