Pressure Grate
« on: May 03, 2012, 06:15:16 pm »

This is an easy one.  I've searched this and the whole forum, and found nothing similar, so here goes.

I'd like a flag added to the existing pressure plate building for one new feature:
OR
I'd like a new building type created called a Pressure Grate.

Either option functions exactly like a pressure plate does in 34.07, but with one additional flag/option and restriction:
Fluid is allowed to flow through, just like a floor grate.  This means it can only be used as a creature / non-fluid trigger type.
It can be built with the same restrictions as a floor grate today, that is, supported orthogonally, rather than diagonally.
Think of it as either taking a pressure plate and sticking it on a floor grate, or taking a floor grate and sticking a pressure plate on it.

All the current functionality of a floor grate.  All the current functionality of a non-fluid trigger type pressure plate.  Pressure Grate!

Current Interface:

New Interface:

And if 'g' was selected/toggled, the w: and m: lines would grey out.  Alternately, the g: line might only highlight if c: was selected for a creature trigger type.

Praise Armok!

One possible application is the burgeoning mermaid fishing industry. (it's a sensor that tells you to open one floodgate and close another one to let fish in and throw them into your butcher's stockpile.)

I've already mentioned it in the Additional Mechanics/Traps Wishlist thread:

...What would this be useful for?

In a variety of contraptions where drainage is important, this would allow for the triggering of "something" by a creature, while not being affected by residual fluid.  This has numerous applications in submerged environments, whether the submersion is permanent or temporary.  It would be particularly helpful when said fluid normally prevents pathing, but would not with this mechanism/building.

Great to see it's on the list.
