What you just said was gibberish. There are no low level monstruous races. You might as well say low level races lose out to ancient dragons.

What? I said at lower levels monstruous races are far stronger than their mundane counterparts. "Lower  levels" does not imply "all the way up to level X", the term was merely used to indicate a trend. Also, good luck with the Ancient Dragon, that is an unmistakably high HD, generate an human wizard of equivalent ECL, or even a little weaker, and watch the later beat the dragon in a few rounds.

Also uh. When did you change what you thought it was, cause it seems to have changed.

What is the "what" you are refering to?

What is the "what" you are refering to?

ECL.

And if I understand what you are saying, you mean a normal out of the book bugbear is stronger then a level four fighter? Or even better, a level four of a class that does not suck.

What is the "what" you are refering to?

ECL.

1st Post: HD/CL+LA
2nd Post: Effective Character Level: Racial HitDice + Class HitDice + Level Adjustment.

As you can see, it never changed, I was just clarifying that the "/" was used to express "and/or" rather than "divided by". While it was initially my fault, given the bad choice of symbol, that should've become clear with my second post, not to mention that the very notion of ECL involving a division of HD by CL is ludicrous.

And if I understand what you are saying, you mean a normal out of the book bugbear is stronger then a level four fighter? Or even better, a level four of a class that does not suck.

No, I mean a Monstruous race allowed PC progression to be rendered "playable" is utterly superior to its more standard counterparts until class features  outweigh raw bonuses; that happens with leveling, hence, not at lower levels; surprised? And yes, fighters are fairly low tier as far as base classes go.

Give me a Mind Flayer without his LA added to his ECL, or his LA added to his HD, and only bad things will come out of it. The same would go for an 11 ECL troll with 11 HD; have a look at the Savage Species material; most of the book is about adjusting races for PC use.

I'm interested in GMing an Arena game based on single combat duels, both PvP and one or two PvE rounds (towards the end). The playabe classes will be melee-based, preferably, and I'll try to make good use of the prestige classes for Gruumsh (Eye of Gruumsh) and Erythnul (Ravager, both from Complete Warrior). It will be play-by-post, and will probably follow a tournament-like structure. As I'm new to GMing though, I'll probably ask one or two of you other GMs for help occasionally. But, before I launch into this all at once and start typing up an OP, I need to see if people are interested, and get feedback on the general ideas. So please, let me know.

Thank you, Doom

What's the level range? o_o

I seem to have forgotten about that... Probably starting level 9-10.

EDIT: I seem to have trouble drawing a map. Any tips? (It's the same general arena as Paradise, so I don't know quite how it looks...)

I don't know how Paradise's arena looks either. >.>

Do you know any good ASCII programs then? Right now I'm using paint, but I could use something better for the job.

I never used ASCII programs before, but Gatleos had made one... I think.

I think this might be it: http://www.tailpig.com/AsciiDraw/

But please, tell me if I'm wrong.

Not Gat's, but that should work fine.

If your arena game starts, maybe I'll try a mounted character.

We'll see. I need to see if anybody's interested first. Do you think I should stay in this thread for the time being, or go ahead and create an OP.

To everybody: 32 point build, 9-10th level, martial characters preferred. It'll be one-on-one duels (gladitorial combat-like) mostly, and feel free to use the prestige classes for Gruumsh and Erythnul.

EDIT: Paint it is for the map.
