Battles are automated. You have no control on the orders of the generals. You can only hope for higher skilled generals to give out smarter orders.

I think having higher military technology might lead to better orders as well. I should redirect my scientists towards researching a better military (because I suspect that is exactly how Germany is acheving those victiories)...however, and this is important, it will take them 7 years anyway.

And at the rate I'm going, I don't have 7 years.

Population is the most important factor in the game. If you are significantly behind you are royally screwed. Don't neglect everything else either :P I haven't played the game in a few months. If you want to do a PBEM or whatever I'd be willing to play I just need to get beaten by 19 other AI's to get the rust off.

A PBEM might be okay, but we're going to need more than just one person playing The General. It would also be nice if we all "roleplayed", at least to some degree. Prehaps as a sequel to this RP...

Year 6 of the First X-COM War

From: Germany
To: General Illuminatuson

Thanks to you, Germany has defended itself from the horrors of Russian invasion.

Thanks to you, Germany has gained indepedence and is free to pursue its own goals.

Thanks to you, Germany stands as the symbol of Alien cooperation.

Because of this, we hereby accept your call to declare you Kaiser of a newly reformed German Empire, the Fourth Reich! This is a purely symbolic title, as true power will of course lay with the TRUE democratic German government. But, by handing you this title, we hereby showcase our love for your leadership during these dark days! Thank you, Kaiser Illuminatuson! Thank you very much so!

Now, defeat the Russians, once and for all! Germany stands behind you!

From: Squeegy
To: Russia

You told me this war would be over by Christmas. 6 years ago.

Our properganda cannot hide the fact that your performance out on the field have been miserable. Now, General Illuminatuson is on your doorsteps, and we cannot afford for yet another country to fall into the hands of anti-Human forces.

And, now, I have heard rumors of you Russians getting tired of war. What? Too chicken to fight? Too chicken to die? Fighting is the only thing you're good at! And you refuse to do even that?

Well, frankly, I'm tired of dealing with you. Luckily for me, I'm heading off to fight on Mars, to stage an assault on the Xenos base, heads-on. I don't have to stay on this rock any longer. Good riddance, Russia. Good riddance to you.

The new leader of X-COM will be General Rinno. He's one of the 'paper generals', who rose in stature purely for filling out paperwork effectively. He'll be a perfect match to you.

From: General Rinno
To: Strife

The army trust you, Strife. You have not lose any morale since you were assigned to defend Russia. However, I distrust your reliance on conventional warfare. You are facing against superior numbers and possibly well-trained forces. Conventional warfare will not work. Unconventional warfare are better than it's conventional counterpart. Keep that in mind.

You now have 413 men. I want you to attack. We cannot stand back and let the Germans wear us down. I don't expect us to actually occupy any territory, but they will not expect us to attack, and we'll wear them down.

First Battle of Kaliningrad and the Third Battle of Węgierska Górka
General Illuminatuson wanted to take over Kaliningrad, which was German territory until WWII, when Russians occupied Kalingrad and Russified it. Illuminatuson wasn't interested in reannexing Kalingrad though, his hope was to convene a new puppet Duma, and create a puppet government. Illuminatuson is known for not letting his nationalistic feelings get in the way of waging war.

Strife aimed to retake the important city of Węgierska Górka. The city had not only symbolic but also stragetic importance. If it was liberated, it would pave the way for the Russians to reform the "Resistance Reichstag".

General Illuminatuson, by now, is losing popularity with the army, especially after he called himself "Kaiser". But his ability to win still kept the army content, and he still remained in the German good graces, unlike ussdefiant.

The battles were stalemate. General Illuminatuson failed in his battle in Kaliningrad, and when Strife counter-attacked, his army was decimated. But, prehaps this was victory, in a way? No Russian land was lost. No German land was gained, but prehaps, maybe, this might be a sign of times to come.

During this year, General Strife has gained more Skill Units than ussdefiant, thereby ensuring he would be employed for quite some time. But Strife is getting old, and the possiblity of Strife dying a natural death was very real.

Ironically, at the start of the year, the Russians had more men than the Germans. The Russians had 413 men, while the Germans have 331. But the Germans were better-trained than the Russians.

The Battle of Kaliningrad lasted 20 hours before General Strife withdrew, while the Third Battle of Węgierska Górka lasted only 13 hours. The Russian army is destroyed, but the German army is now at 203.

Quote
General Strife has gained 10 skill units.
General Strife has gained 5 skill units.
Your peasants have grown 8710 tonnes of grain, worth $87100.
The population of your country has grown by 121 people.
You have paid $855 to your scientists.

There was a far more ominous sign on the horizon of Russia though than General Strife's possible passing:

Year 7 of the First X-COM War

Riots In Germany
Things started to go downhill when Kaiser Illuminatuson began consoilidating control over the newly-formed German Reich. The whole idea of the general being seen as the symbol of Germany already rankled a few people's nerves. When Kaiser Illuminatuson began banning political newspapers that revealed that General Illuminatuson lost the First Battle of Kaliningrad, people began discussing if the German democracy is falling apart. But when Kaiser Illuminatuson established food rations, tensions flared to a boiling point. All these factors soon combined together to form an explosive combination.

Soon, riots and protests began to break out throughout Germany, sponsored in part by General Rinno, the new head of X-COM. Kaiser Illuminatuson declared martial law, but the instablity within Germany was not easy to contain.

The German people revealed that they tired of sacrificing their lives for the whims and fancies of Kaiser Illuminatuson's ego, and indirectly, for the Aliens. I spoke to one German who said, "We defeated the Russians. So why are we still fighting?" Some people secretly desired for the good old days of the Resistance Reichstag, altough most people merely desired Illuminatuson out.

Fourth Battle of Węgierska Górka
"After 14 hours of glorious fighting, we now control Węgierska Górka! We are now begining our march to liberate Germany once more.

We call upon all Germans to overthrow the Fourth Reich. Work with us, as we fight for the defense of Freedom and battle for justice and truth! We shall fight. For Peace. For Land. For Bread."--Resistance Reichstag

General Rinno: "We are interested in cooperating with all rebel groups to ensure the overthrow of Kaiser Illuminatuson. Illuminatuson poses a threat to the region, and he must be stopped."

Quote
General Strife has gained 7 skill units.
Your peasants have grown 8126 tonnes of grain, worth $81260.
The population of your country has grown by 123 people.
You have paid $855 to your scientists.
There's not been enough money to pay your soldiers, so the excess grain, to the value of $43570 , has been sold.
You have paid $37959 to your soldiers.

Okay, I have no idea why you bumped this, but that's not what I'm posting about.

What the actual fuck happened here? All the pictures in the updates clearly changed sometime in past - or alternatively nobody commented on the giant penis because hey, shit happens - but here's the weird bit: the pages weren't edited before the final post, so nobody noticed the change, so it can't have been Servant Corps who did it. Clearly what happened is the imagehosting service changed the photos, but how and why I just have absolutely no idea.

This is the weirdest thing to pop up on my updated topics since I think forever.

Well, I guess the imagehost delete pics after a year, and then use the name for new pics. Well, maybe something should be done about the giant penis?

I see advanced necromancy at work. Seriously, why would you bump a thread which had its last post 3 years ago? Stop with the spam people.

I bumped it just because it was about Russia.

That is my answer to that statement.
