A jumping spider is just a species of spider...
A jumping spider man is not a specie of spider.

But we've had batmen for years! Why has no-one made threads about them?

Syrupleaf had batmen problems in its early days.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

I'd be willing to bet you can find threads about batmen with all sorts of punning if you looked long enough. And in addition, the batman is joked about on the wiki in any case.

Which means the question could really be rephrased, why is there not joking on the wiki about the spiderman (jumping variant or otherwise)?

(The answer is probably, "because they were just added in DFv0.34.xx," naturally, but that doesn't preclude getting started with the wiki humour subsection now that we've noticed.)

I have an idea. Let's play a game where you win by being as quiet as possible.
I get it, it's one of those games where losing is fun!

Because Batman is the hero the Wiki deserves.

Clearly, this represents six side-by-side wheelbarrows, as indicated by the right half of the icon.  The left half indicates they are carrying babies with hats in these wheelbarrows.

Presumably, they are lining up to dump them into the baby furnaces.

A jumping spider man is not a specie of spider.

Ah... but is it? Is it a species of spider? Or a species of man?

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...

It's a species of hero, gentle reader.

There's also the Iron Man that puzzlingly lacks [ALCOHOL_DEPENDENT].

The item is an image of an Iron Man in kaolinite. It is encircled with bands of orthoclase.

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.

I had a dwarf go into a fell mood and make a statue of a dwarf out of the dwarf victim's skeleton.  (Sort of like that creepy "Bodies" exhibition that is probably made from executed Chinese criminals.)

Is that what always happens?!

Nope, they usually make a perfectly normal object apart from the material. But now you need to stick this in their family's room, or better yet, their lover's. Bonus points if you can get them to haul it there themselves.

'Course with Dwarf Fortress, the only relevant question is, "How far away will the ASCII gibs splash on landing?"
5 squares per limb, if you raise the north orthoclase bridge before sacrificing one of them so they have a straight shot to the bottom of the chasm.

No, that's pretty random. But awesome. I'm guessing that the artifact workmanship went into reproducing all the dearly-departed's features using just the internal skeleton. Imagine how much work it would take to turn a skull into a 9/10ths scale replica of their head, complete with facial features. That's some legendary bone carving right there.
