Murdering migrants is bad now as everyone is related, so it's either sad naked dwarves, or sad clothes dwarves..

I have a spider pit for executing captured goblins/trolls/whatever, so I just keep a couple of looms next door and have my legendary clothier set to repeat. You could probably achieve very similar results just by buying as much cloth as you can get your hands on... or stealing it from dead elf merchants. Whatever floats your boat really. I did lose a child to clothing madness at one point, but that was her own fault. The silly girl refused to put on a shirt or trousers because she already had a robe.

When the merchants arrive I buy all the cloth they have and then issue some work orders for 30 trousers, shoes, shirts, tunics and dresses, and sometimes cloaks, hoods and caps. Also, I have a loom constantly working with pig tail. I'm at year 5 and all my dwarves are nicely dressed.

Except for the Baroness, she went crazy and is running around naked.

If you want to just murder everything, try a vampire fort in an evil biome.

Vampires, being undead, get along with other undead just fine. They won't bother each other. Any new migrants will be set upon be hordes of vampires AND zombies. The new migrants will rise up as additional zombies, and your vampires will get new clothes.

Likewise for traders and sieges. Once you get a critical mass of zombies it should be able to defeat anything by sheer numbers.

I started a clothing industry and now I have too many bloody cloths. The little idiots like to drop there oh-so-slightly worn shirt to go and pick up a brand new one. I have xshirtsx everywhere.

However they seem to do work at a glacial pace if isolated for long periods of time. I have a vampire in holding. Since I had some artifact clothes laying around I gave the artifact clothes to him, so they will never, ever rot away. He's been in holding for about 10 years now.

Inside his holding cell is a workshop with a simple reaction to make 1 plump helmet. It takes him nearly a full season to do that.

Also assigning him to be a manager isn't working either. His work rate is so slow he can't get anything done.

It's because they never drink alcohol and get the "needs a drink" thought still. There have been a couple of workarounds for this, such as setting a syndrome on dwarven blood that causes those who ingest it to need to drink by removing the [NO_DRINK] tag. I personally have mine with that syndrome and then have it set to end shortly before they die of dehydration so they can still technically survive forever, it's just if you want them to work fast you need to feed them a dwarf every once in a while to let them drink alcohol again.

I abuse ropereeds like nobody's business.

Ropreeds are a year-round crop, compared to seasonal like pigtail. The value is identical, so other than mental block, and dwarf preferences, ropereeds are vastly more economical.

A big 10x10 ropereed plot with a dedicated staff can puke out more ropereed fiber cloth than you coulld ever hope to make use of.

Between that and the absurd numbers of brown recluse webs, I have more than enough clothing stockpiled to basically shutdown both industries for several years now. Granted, I only have 24 dearves.... but I have 700 ropereed cloth, ans 1000 recluse silk cloth stockpiled. If I need trousers, I can spit out an epic shitton in short order.

This recent return of the need for clothing seems to be hitting the players that over emphasize metal industries, as far as I can tell.  I didn't really feel much of a bump, and don't see the proble.

The clothes don't have to be fabulous quality; just pressgang some haulers into some clothier shops and poop out some burlap bag outfits. The dwarves won't care, just as long as you don't make them go naked.

I just buy all the cloth I can afford from the caravans and put a cheese maker to be a dedicated clothier. By the second year I have a legendary clothier churning clothes like there is no tomorrow. I do abuse rope reeds though.
