Clothes, finished goods and armor... aaaaaaaaaaargh
« on: April 19, 2012, 02:24:03 pm »

I've been searching the forum about this and found one or two helpful posts but remain mystified by the whole thing.

How do I work out which bits of armor/clothing/bodywear go in which stockpile?  Among the many things that confuse me are:

  • The armor stockpile claims to be able to contain shirts, dresses etc. but if I create a plant fiber only armor stockpile my pig tail fiber clothing doesn't go in it.
  • Finished good stockpiles have categories for foot, leg, hand and headwear but not bodywear.
  • Finished good stockpiles set to accept armor accept dresses and coats.

Is this because finished goods armor is actually bodywear?  Does armor end up in a finished goods stockpile if I don't have an armor stockpile?  Why can't I put trousers in an armor stockpile set up to accept trousers?

Is there any logic behind this at all, or is it just one of those things that Toady is going to get round to fixing at some stage?

Clothing isn’t armour and therefore will never go in armour stockpiles. Clothing is considered to be finished goods. Shirts and dresses, etc, are accounted for in finished goods under the ‘armour’ type. Likewise actual armour such as mail shirts will not end up in a finished goods stockpile.

The shirts, trousers, etc listed under the options for armour stockpiles have no function.

Yes, Finished Goods armor is torso coverings.  Armor armor is stuff you would wear into battle.  Don't ask me why it is this way.  It's a nuisance because you can sort Armor armor by Usable/Non-Usable, but not Finished Goods armor.  So it goes.  *shrug*
