The seaworld challenge
« on: April 19, 2012, 11:09:24 am »

A while back I attempted a challenge fort where cave crocodiles, daggers and leathers clothing was the only allowed way to defend the fort.

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=90283.0

It ended horribly. While cave crocodiles are good at fighting unarmored, non-dodging foes, they just dont measure up even in mass hordes. And leather armor just aint that good, Urist.

But now for something completely different.

One main problem of cave crocs is that they were fighting the enemy FAIRLY. Any dwarf can see how this is problematic and deeply undwarfy. This -pig tail sock- quality problem will now be completely eviscerated.

Today I present the sea world challenge. Giant Moats everywhere and dosens of pressure plates will be the infrastructure supporting enormous amounts of aggressive sealife which will eat the invaders. No longer will we meet the enemy on their terms - they shall be eaten by our pet war whales and impaled on the horns of our narwhales.

Stipulations:

- No army
- No traps other than traps that induce falls into 7/7 water
- No warbeasts that can survive on land.

Our civilisation "The works of genius" will establish a new foothold off the coast of "The Plain-Gate oceans".  More to follow, please free to PTW.

For bonus points, do not route forgotten beasts up to the surface level moats. Build moats in the caverns and devise ways to lower war orcas down to them.

Though really it's more of a gesture of support of an idea, since you can just click the "Notify" button at the top and be alerted of new posts in a thread without actually needing to post in it yourself.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

We have run into the first problem! For some reason even though I added [COMMON_DOMESTIC] to the whales, I could not request any whales from the outpost liason.

Problem with that, it just emails you instead. You need to actually post to get the updated topics mcjigger.

If you will notice I posted a potential solution to that in your modding thread.

Is it possible that the weight of the whale greater than the burden capacity of the pack animals?  If so, editing the RAW for said pack animal can fix that.

Also, does your civilization have access to making aquariums?  Oceans to draw said whales from?

BTW, I actually have a community game going now where one of the long-term goals is to have moats with trained war giant sperm whales and sea serpents and such around the fortress.  Not sure if it will succeed, but the attempt should be amusing and educational.
