Hmmm. . . . . . sudden Idea. What if we let them go first? I am sure that they are going to try and confront them directly. This will most likely end badly. We, following in behind and posed as peasants, can gather information on what tactic we can use to convince them to go after the raiders.

Another thing, if they call us a peasant while in the room, one of three things will happen
1. We will be exposed openly by the merc's who will have a more adept eye than the nobles, this will obviously show us more competent than the nobles and they might be more inclined to listen to what we have to say.
2. The merc's will know that we aren't mere peasants and will expose us in secret, away from the nobles, which we can still use to our advantage because the fact still remains. We are far more shrewd than the other nobles.
3. We remain hidden as a peasant until the nobles leave. then we can revel ourselves to the merc's and offer them a drink. this will show both our shrewdness and our competence. We will also have the backing of our silver tongue to convince them, while we fill them with as much ale our pockets can handle.

Any votes for the above, or to the contrary?  Any new suggestions?

I would suggest letting them do the mission for us, then taking credit for it. If the mercs do as Lady Emerfarth asks, and we're the only one who claims responsibility, it's unlikely anyone will question it. We just need to make sure that we're the only who who claims responsibility. Fjorn can help with that.

Lets avoid killing them if we dont have too. i am usually all for eliminating future threats, but I also love good story lines. Not quick games.

If we wanted to talk our way out of this the time to have done that was when these two were introduced. There was a huge pile of new information in that three part post we could have used. For example, we could have acted relieved to have finally found them and explained in terror that some idiot on the same mission already showed up but sent them to the wrong location, and that they needed to hurry up and catch them to correct the mistake before they started a war with the wrong people. Or we could have explained that there was a leadership dispute and that half the mercs had left, leaving insufficient numbers for the desired attack...so they'd need to go resolve that. or we could have claimed that the marshall was away on business and that we were the acting captain, so if they had anything to discuss they could talk to us.

Now that we've claimed to be a servant, our options are severely limited. Best options I see are to either let them do our job and take credit for it, or let them do their thing and hope they take some action we can corrupt. Maybe arrange to be asked to relay a message, and relay it incorrectly. But that's basically giving them to ball and hoping they miss.

Like zomara0292 says, this is likely to end badly.

So...Let them do the job and figure out what to do afterwards?

Have I got this right?

Sorry if this is really boring, I'll see what I can do to make this more exciting.

I see one vote for burst in ahead of them and announce ourselves as important hoping to make them look like pretenders, one vote for let them go in first and eavesdrop for information, and one vote for let them complete our mission for us and take credit.

So...how about let them go, eavesdrop for information and then decide later what to do about it?

EDIT:

Yes. While listening in.
