unless it was fixed a vampire will carry sentient kill trophies, thousands if it's been around a while.

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

Vampires will very often have white hair on account of living so long.

You seem to be under the illusion that we give a shit about what happens to dwarves who are too dumb to live.

White hair or clean shaven. No thoughts about beds, eating something good/drinking, dining in hall. Hasnt been drinking in a long time, BLUE TEXT WALL of former places. Many relatives not present in fort. Sometimes wearing bone items. Apperance of X years old is apparently something some vampires have but I have never seen it.

The most effective method seems to be to check their thoughts and preferences; vampires have _massive_ lists of former places; often multiple pages. Once you've found them, they can be quite handy; I suggest walling your two into offices and making them permanent manager/bookkeeper.

many of these depend on world age
if world age is very low, then vampires will not have time to get social, move around, or get kills

If you have stowed one away for a long time to be mayor or book keeper - beware. if you should let him out he will instantly start feeding, and a lot. my mayor ate a bowyer and a miner immediatly when he pathed out of his hole because of some incident with dogs

just forbid all food until they're all hungry
search for the one that isn't
wuala that's your future lever puller/burial guy/record keeper

or just quarantine your every migration wave in a burrough/locked room and wait for the hunger to kick in

But personally I kinda like them. They thin the heard regulary, cicle the dorfs so that you don't watch the same faces everyday and keep the meat workforce fresh.
Be sure to put the lowlifes and important dwarves in separate burrougs to prevent your legendary weaponsmith from losing some pounds in blood
and life...

Just remembering from my scan of dwarves coming in, there are a few with exceptional skills in social skills.  I'll have to check their civs list.

If a migrant has no relatives in the fort and has a long "former member of" list, guaranteed vampire.

Lock up suspects, if they don't get down arrows after a while, confirmed vampire.

Once the vampire is identified, proceed to use burrows for population control.
