Flamethrower

Another crazy idea but I'm shocked no-one has modded in a flamethrower :O I mean there's the animation for it only it's coming out of stuff that wants to kill you, not from your dwarfs  :( and it is in this time period being the first flame thrower was used in ancient Greece.

Are you thinking of Greek fire? That wasn't a flamethrower, that was more like a flame bomb. And who's to say that A. everything before 1400 has to be included (firearms, for instance), or B. that dwarves know how to use it?

Still, in a more general sense, equipment (probably magical) that can "afflict" and/or unlock interactions would be a good addition. You could make flamethrowers (mod in a weapon that gives the wielder the ability to conjure a stream of fire and watch dwarves dance through the fire they started), cloaks of flight, and so forth.

The Pen Huo Qi is an ancient Chinese flamethrower that could be reminiscent of the idea of how to implement this.  Liberties can be given to make it Dwarfy in that Dwarfs generally have a higher affinity and this is Dwarf Fortress, there needs to be some FUN.  Oh the beautiful !!science!! that may spawn from this weapon.

Personally, I like it because after climbing the damned learning cliff, I'm too elitist to consider not liking it.
If murdering parents in front of their kids in the most gruesome manner possible is too much for you, you have not played Dwarf Fortress
You should be drowning babies by now, human.

Greek fire wasn't a "fire bomb", it was a substance  and it was used in many different weapons. And according to Toady and ThreeToe there will be no firearms or gunpowder in the game.

He might be confusing greek fire (which was basically burning oil hosed at the other guys, or whatever. That's how I always imagined it.) with Naphtha bombs as used in Stronghold: Crusader and such. :P

Was Greek fire more often thrown in such a way that it would burn everything in a certain area, or sprayed so that it would form a flamethrower-like line of fire? I said more like, referring to the fact that to my knowledge, Greek fire was not sprayed at enemies, but held inside containers which were thrown at enemies. And the "firearms" thing was an example of why "It existed in the right time period!" argument was invalid.

I might have, but I've never heard of Stronghold: Crusader.
