Starting crazy experiment.
« on: April 07, 2012, 07:51:57 pm »

Hi everyone.

I just discovered that my fortresses cistern has been infected with stagnent water. Not quite sure how since its compleatly cut off an very far away from all the stagnent rivers on the map.

Currently I have two very large cisterns connected by a opening at the bottom of the walls seperating them stupidly I did not put a floodgate in to cut them off from eachother in case this happened. One is clean and the other is not.

Plan A - probably will not work but lets try it anyway.

Pump the dirty water from Cistern A to Cistern B and see what happens. Hopefully cleans it.

I expect Cistern B to become Stagnant. But thats what experementation is for. Time to do Science!

Plan B - Probably will work.

Set up a running water system using pluming to supply the wells.

Best bet of the two.

If neither work then this fortress will die. Only because of stagnant water... time to start the project.

Since when did a fortress need water? If your dwarves are drinking water instead of booze, you need a still. And if they only need the water to clean themselves then why do you need running water? What, does stangent water collect moss or something?

I see that somebody has never bothered setting up a hospital.

I just made another unexpected discovery to test. And I found the source.

1. Source

The Dwarfs were using the hospital well to wash themselves and it contaminated the well and Cistern.

2. Unexpected result

Drawing water using a well appears to clean the water for use.

Yeah, for some reason it does that.
I always imagine Dwarves install filters on their well buckets...

This is a side-effect of dwarven animal training (hit animal with hammer until it forgets that it hates you, then lovingly cuddle it).

I'm not your average Bay12er. I care about my drunken midgets.
