"HFS" Fortress causing lag.
« on: April 03, 2012, 12:09:18 am »

*Problem resolved, Thanks for the help*

Just got a simple few questions; I embarked on my new site with the plan of making a epic (In my terms  ::) ) Megaproject. All was fine until the second migrant wave, when i noticed that my FPS cap of 150 was wavering from about 120-140.

I found this strange, since i had a 8 year fort with 180 dwarves running at 200 fps.

So, naturaly, i used DF hack to see if there were massive liquid movements in the caverns all of a sudden. Instead i found a HFS fort with a few thousand undead creatures. Would this be causing the lag, even though i hadn't discovered them before?

If so, whats the easiest way of killing/removing them all so i can continue building? I really dont care for the fortresses "reward" so would i simply flood the entire thing with magma somehow?

(I thought that magma only killed because it made millions of tiny cuts in creatures, causing them to bleed out. Zombies cant die from bleeding?)

Where is the chemistry
They tried chemistry once.
It created soap.
Dwarves lost interest in chemistry after that.

That won't kill the current undead, I believe. Though as long as you're not in an evil biome, I don't think they'll get back up. Personally, I'd use a 15+ z-level deep pit with magma at the bottom, just to be safe, and to save on cleanup. Lure them over a retracting bridge above the pit set to repeat with a chained kitten they can path to on the other side, or something similar.

If there's literally a few thousand undead, yeah that will kill your framerate. A few dozen wouldn't be a huge deal though.

Most surefire way is a nice army. Steel and bronze clad dwarves will turn them into nice practice dummies, methinks.

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Well, its going to be a long time until i get a good military.

Plus, im running the Masterwork mod, so theres actiualy a bunch of fire breathing things in there too.

But, in addition, im abandoning this fort because i realised that Masterwork was installed incorrectly, and 3 of my dwarves just died a horrible and painful death by arsenic poisoning.

So thanks anyway =D
