He has been sitting in a hospital bed for months and has had nobody feed or care for him.  He is very close to starving/dehydrating to death, and I don't know why my two dedicated healers aren't doing anything to help.  Any ideas?

Did you do anything like building additional beds in the hospital as dwarves were being taken to the hospital?

I've had that result in two-dwarves-one-bed, where one of the dwarves thinks they're in hospital, but the hospital doesn't think the dwarf is there. Generally, if you have food, water, and idle dwarves who enjoy helping others, they won't die of hunger or thirst, though I've seen them come close.

It's usually idle dwarves with feed/water patients/prisoners that do the feeding duties, not so much your dedicated medical personnel. Also, they have to like helping others, or they'll avoid the duty like the plague, and potentially throw a tantrum if they do (unless you have an awesome dining room or awesome doors/statues/etc, then you're probably fine).

Try finding a Dwarf who likes helping others. Turn off all their other labours, maybe give them a new professional nickname. Even legendary grandmaster chief doctors +27 in every healing skill will not. give. a. fuck. if they don't like helping people or are ambivalent to it.
