Dwarf size values
« on: April 01, 2012, 11:17:32 am »

How do I tell the exact size value for any given dwarf? I recently bought a great axe and I've been trying to find a dwarf that will use it, but every dwarf so far has instead chosen to leave it in the stockpile and fight and train unarmed, even after assigning it as a specific weapon. I've been choosing my candidates to be as tall and fat as possible, but without knowing their exact size values I have no way of discerning whether their apparent preference for dwarven kung-fu is a bug or because they can't wield it. Ideas?

Default greataxes are too large for dwarves to use, regardless of the physical description. Check the weapon raws; if the minimum size is >60000, it cannot be used by a dwarf.

Are you sure about that? The wiki page seems to suggest that some, albeit few, dwarves can handle them.

From what I understand you probably can use a greataxe if the dwarf is indeed large enough.  Although the base dwarf size is 60000(?), individuals fluctuate a bit around that.  Supposedly the tallest and broadest dwarves can use weapons like halberds or greatswords, but I've actually never tried.

There's no way to know a dwarf's size directly to my knowledge.  The best you can do is pick the tallest and broadest.  I don't think fatness counts here.
