Author Topic: Stuck food in cages, solved, refuse gathering outside had to be set  (Read 467 times)

I have used a few cage traps to tame weasels, and I even trained them a little, because when at least slightly trained, they can be taken for butchering. The trainer used food to tame the creatures, but the food got stuck inside the cage and now I cannot use it for anything. I set the food items to be dumped, but no one is approaching. I set the cage to be dumped as well, and nothing happens. And they will not be used to fill a cage trap, instead I get job cancelations. Since I am playing a Fun map, I cannot replace the cages indefinitely. And even if I did, they would keep piling up.

This from Wiki:
Taming or increasing tameness requires food (edible plant for herbivores, meat for carnivores), which the trainer will bring to the animals. If a caged animal is fed a plant, seeds will stay in the cage, possibly making it unusable until all the seeds in it are dumped.

Well... While I wait for answers, I'll keep looking into the dumping option.

If dumping continues to not work, I suggest connecting and pulling a lever.

Mark the food itself for dumping, not the cage, then give your dwarves a bit of time to carry out the dumping.

If the cage is built, (t) over it, hit return, it'll show you what's in it-- select what's in it, hit return, (d) for dump.  If the cage isn't built, you can use designate dump (and then remove designation on the cage) or, tediously, navigate the stocks screen and mark the offending object for dumping there.

He he he.  Yeah, it almost looks done...  alas...  those who are in your teens, hold on until your twenties...  those in your twenties, your thirties...  others, cling to life as you are able...<P>It should be pretty fun though.

Note that for any dump designation to work you need to have a garbage dump zone. If the things marked for dumping are above ground, you also need to set your (o)rders regarding (r)efuse to gather refuse (o)utside, otherwise they'll just ignore them.

Thank you!

I already did everything as Nil said, however the issue was the refuse setting. The cages were indeed outside. After I allowed them to gather, they quickly freed up the seeds that were set to dump.
