Domestication: How long does it take?
« on: March 30, 2012, 05:01:54 pm »

I currently had for quite some time wolverines and giant wild boars consistantly trained (literally, I have several guys set to ONLY training animals and animal care) and they have yet to domesticate either one... Do I need an animal trainer of a specific quality? Or does it just take a rediculous amount of time to deomesticate them?

it takes time and the original animals will probably never be completely tame since they were born and raised wild. With sufficient knowledge and a decent trainer (Had one at 6), I got the piglets from warthogs to tame - domesticated, but not the parents.

So it's a factor of your knowledge of the animal in question, some training skill and the fact that it works best on young animals. Note that I had a herd of about 18 warthogs to get knowledge from, so that sped things up. They didn't get tame untill my knowledge was at "expert".

ongoing thread on taming and training:

Don't forget to assign any young that are born to be tamed.  As mentioned above it's usually the young that can be fully domseticated.

Which usually doesn't take too long if you have a single tamer.  And butcher the parents once you have some breeders.

I'm keeping the parents for a while to continue gaining knowledge about taming that animal.
