I never mod the dwarfs themselves.  I do modify the entity to remove most clothes, and add Deon's cremation & stone grinder.

I mod all races' tissue templates so that all tissues heal at a very slow rate, including brains & nerve.

But mostly, I like the challenges Dwarf physiology give to gameplay.

- [PRONE_TO_RAGE:2]
- Add [CAN_STONE] to spears.
- Buff obsidian a bit.
- Nerve and nails have a slow healing rate.

I hate the little bastards perfectly well as they are.

Pretty much this. Although I may occasionally mod in some more exotic forms of weaponry, like Katana, Naginata and Lobster !!RAGE!! fists, if I mod, it's usually to make other races more fun.*

*oh god the antmen.

With the magic of dfusion on DF2010, I made it possible for dwarves to bring antmen.

They made superb miners and capenters. one even made an artifact glumprong crossbow, and they would continue working even as giant badgers killed thier fellow ants around them.

I don't always mod my dwarves, but when I do...

They have [SPEED:0], [NOFEAR], [NOSTUN], [NOEAT], [NOSLEEP], [NONAUSIA], no organs, and slade skin. They also explode when they die.

Dos Equis man quote has given me the idea to mod in tequila. It would make dwarves need less booze, but they would suffer some sort of ... side effect? Perhaps an increased chance to go insane, AND an increased chance for a strange mood...

Suprisingly thier suicidal defense of the fortress saved it more than once, with the antman soldiers and workers dying so the dwarves that led them could strike the killing blows on attackers.

Let's see...they're made out of candy, pretty sure they have no organs or fat and thus fire-proof(I just had a guy tap a volcano, clothes caught on fire but not him.) 6 arms...speed:0, no fear, no exert, no thought required...Oh, and they bleed fire.

You seem to be under the impression that we're playing some game other than dwarf fortress. It doesn't matter how powerful you make a creature, we will find a way to destroy it. God is dead, and Urist killed him.

I've given them slow healing for nerves in the past. Will probably do so again since this thread has reminded me of it. :) Other than that I keep them stock.

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.

I don't mod DF yet, but when I do, I'll make farms FAR less productive, and add "Make wooden training mace/hammer" to the Carpenter's Workshop.
It would also be nice to have an elected Foreman noble (whoever has the highest ranks in Carpenter/Mason/Building Design), whose job it is to walk around construction sites and say things like, "No, you fool! That floor tile is the only thin supporting that grate! Deconstruct the grate first."

Alternatively, I'd mod dwarves to have extremely tall and broad ears, sharp teeth, no beards, and the females don't get unhappy thoughts from not wearing clothing. Ferengi Fortress.

Dwarf Fortress -- kind of like Minecraft, but for people who hate themselves.

I like to reduce child duration and lifespan proportionally. Seems more fair that way.

I often use dfhack's speed:0 thing so that I can turn it off for combat. I just want them to move fast, not get insane combat bonuses.

My dwarves hit the Conversion Bureau.

Not really but someday I'll try out that mod.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

They tore up their civilization and planted evil mists everywhere?
