Bubblin' crude (Magma that is)
« on: March 30, 2012, 02:52:17 am »

So in my current fort, I've been diggin around and planning out where things are and whatnot. Though I've been using reveal to avoid the caverns and plan things out a bit safer (a bit less Fun at the offset), a mis-type resulted in me revealing the magma sea not with a downward channel next to the bottom set of stairs, but rather, by designating an up/down stair to be dug out in the level directly above the magma.

So my question is this: having dug out an up/down staircase on the level directly above the magma, have I actually breached the magma sea? Can magma beasties climb up the stairs and enter the fort? Even in the absence of a set of stairs on the magma level?

Keep in mind that the dwarves are essentially alcoholic toddlers, and act accordingly.

I don't believe so.  But the reason it's only "believe" is because I always err on the safe side, and when this happens, I floor off the offending staircase, and build both new magma access and a new staircase (just for that level, because flooring it off destroys not only the downstairs but the upstairs).

He he he.  Yeah, it almost looks done...  alas...  those who are in your teens, hold on until your twenties...  those in your twenties, your thirties...  others, cling to life as you are able...<P>It should be pretty fun though.

No, they can't walk up into your fort without a set of stairs on the same level as them.  They can fly up into your fort, though.  Just build an Up Staircase over the Up/Down Staircase you excavated on the lowest level and it will block it off entirely.
