Cheers for letting us know about this, been looking to replace my copy as the disk was killed by my sisters cat deciding that it would make a nice clawing object.

Quick question, is this the original US release or the European "NO CHILDREN CAUSE KILLING CHILDREN IS WRONG" release?

Also, I recommend the Fallout upgrade mod, and the Fallout 2 restoration mods. FO1 upgrade adds some quests and NPCs, and FO2 restoration adds a metric shitload of cut content back to the game. You can get them at No Mutants Allowed: http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php

Dwarf Fortress - Bringing out the evil in people since 2006.
Somehow, that fills me more with dread than anticipation.  It's like being told that someone's exhuming your favorite grandparent and they're going to try to make her into a cyborg stripper.

Thanks for this. I bought Tactics a while back which I love but I could never get into Fallout 1 and 2. I'm just terrible with turn based games and don't really enjoy the rulesets with "action points" for moving and the like.
I enjoyed the little I played through the first Fallout a while back untill I rage quit due to the combat and UI. Hopefully I can get over these set-backs and enjoy the story this time around.
Same issue here. It's one of those games where I want to focus on charisma-style skills yet the combat is unmanageable early on unless I'm made for it. Maybe I'll try Tactics some time since I love the Fallout universe yet struggle to enjoy the original two games.

As being new to gog.com, does 'free for 48 hours' means I won't be able to play anymore after said 48 hours? :v

Dun laugh at me, I never been to that place before D:

Your GOG account has a digital game-shelf that you can redownload from as much as you want, once you have a game on it. So, you get Fallout within the timeframe, and then you can download it, play it, etc, whenever you want.
The older games also tend to be DRM free. It's a pretty good place, really.

Also, no idea if it's the US release. I would sure hope so, and given this site's history with old games, it probably is.

Something about this game makes me wonder why God lets it exist.
Say, if you give birth on a ranch and then murder your baby will a corpse drop be guaranteed?

I wanted to say thanks for making this topic. I've been wanting to get Fallout for a while, but wasn't sure if I should divulge the cash on it.

The fallout series is on steam as well and I got FO 1 and 2 from there, and I'm pretty sure you can gun down children there, because I once tried to blast a childs brains all over the place, but was killed by a angry man with a sledge hammer. So unless children are invincible gods, who can take hits but can't be killed, then I'm pretty sure that the steam version has children killing.

I had played for a dozen of years and completed multiple time Fallout 2 , always enjoyed this game (except the very Temple cleaning beginning that had always been the dullest part of it), but never played the 1st, so i jumped on that occasion.
Installed the "Fallout Fixit" compilation of mods and unofficial patches ( once you install the mod and its patch, take all the files from the folder it is installed to and put them directly in the Fallout 1 directory, took me a while to understand this as i didn't saw this step in the docs, only found this in the mod thread) and got a quick start run.

And it's much more similar to Fallout 2 than i thought it would be, not only in term of gameplay, but the visuals are exactly the same.
Still it's always good to explore something new in that great game.

For those interested, i noticed that the fixit compilation may install things i may have not wanted, as i was more after only additional fixes instead of additional content.
So in case you're after this too, here's a how to for the gog version of Fallout 1 :

From the TeamX website (there's at least one of those patches on NMA that is not the most up to date, so considering the TeamX are the ones that created and coded them, get them at the source :
http://www.teamx.ru/site_arc/patches/index.html

1- Fallout v.1.2.1 universal patch (eng)
2- Fallout v.1.3 patch (eng)

And you're at the very latest version of the unofficial bugfixes (the 1.2.1 unofficial patch contain too the child patch in it, no need to install another patch along those 2) of the unofficial 1.3.x serie.

After that you may want the high res patches if you need.

Now there's the mention of some kind of possible crash in the Cathedral and another place, and apparently it does not happen on every version of Fallout, and as i'm way too early in the game, i can't say if it happens on the gog version then.
The "F1 Cathedral fix" , that patch master.dat and critter.dat available on the TeamX website :
http://teamx.ru/site_arc/patches/index.html
Is supposed to take care of that if it happens.
