Examine parent-civ details from embark screen
« on: March 30, 2012, 04:52:53 am »

From the embark screen you can choose which parent civilization to use for embarking, but you can't get any information about them (except for the worldmap location of its current settlements).  When displaying the list of possible parent civs, you should be able to press a key to display information about that civ:
  • At the very least, it should show what resources are available from your civ, so (for example) you can select a civ which has iron anvils available.
  • After that, it'd be useful to have a tab showing about which non-domestic animals the civ has training knowledge.
  • Beyond that, non-gameplay information, like the gods worshiped by that civ.

  • The ability to look at the king/queen/other type of leader, including details view and legends mode-style life history.
  • Showing primary race (for mods), as well as demographic breakdown of the civ.  (For finding the civs that are 70% goblin after worldgen.)
  • Showing the history of war and trade within the civ - who their major antagonists and allies have been throughout history
  • Showing major causes of death within the civ - is this a civ where the specter of starvation looms ever-present, or has warfare been the most constant reaper?

That top one would be especially useful if you have a tyrant vampire king or queen, since then, you could know ahead of time, and prepare your fortress as a "buffet" for the incoming monarch, where vampire nobles are catered to.

Personally, I like [DF] because after climbing the damned learning cliff, I'm too elitist to consider not liking it.
