Dwarves Randomly Going Insane
« on: March 26, 2012, 12:22:43 am »

So my dwarf was just doing what every useless peasant does, planting seeds and being retarded, and then poof!  He went insane for no reason that I could see, he was perfectly happy and had a room and everything.  RIP Talented Soapmaker.  But seriously, could there be any cause for this with the new update and all, just random outbursts of bloodlust?  Kind of curious if there is a way to predict if this will happen, so I can put my volcano to good use.

The clothing bug has been fixed, dwarves now require shoes, pants, and a shirt at minimum or else their mood deteriorates very rapidly.

Are you playing the masterwork mod?  It's another "feature" that isn't exactly advertised, and has caused threads like this in the past.

Aight, to answer these.

He was clothed, happy, well fed and had a room.  His mood was great.

No I hate mods, mods suck.  I play completely vanilla because that's how I roll.

He literally just stopped in the middle of planting seeds and started biting people.

Hmm, are there any syndromes that can cause insanity? Did you poke a toxic FB recently? Did you actually get the message that he went berserk, or was he just attacking stuff?

I don't think syndromes that cause insanity exist.  There has been some weirdness going around--another person (this one with masterwork) reported the same yesterday.

Maybe madness has been made more realistic-e.g. dwarves people might just snap in the best of circumstances. Maybe it ran in his family?

the family question is a good one - did a family member die/murder someone/squash fluffy under a bridge?

If it's a feature it's not a vanilla one...

I'd go combing through the family records too.

All of these questions, I haven't been playing long enough for a FB, no mods, no deaths.  Literally the guy just dropped his work then lost it for no reason.  He ended up getting his head lopped off by an amateur woodcutter.  I don't really care I just thought it was weird.

Could you check his last thoughts? You can reach the thoughts page of a dead dwarf via the relations page of a dwarf he knew
