Alexandrite Marsh Titan
« on: March 22, 2012, 07:24:51 am »

I have no trained military or any other conceivable way of defeating this marsh titan, should I just give it up?

Give them a nice trap gauntlet to run, maybe a "dodge-me" trap over a 10-z pit lined with menacing copper spikes, so they explode into greasy goblin gibs on impact and leave the lovely iron bits for your dwarves to collect at leisure.

not if you can still wall him out and then lure him into a trap with kittens.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

Marsh titan made of alexandrite?

Who knows, if you have a legendary miner to spare, send him out to face it. Those picks are pretty devastating in combat.

Failing that, wall yourself in and let siegers/ambushers/caravans soften him up until you have a military. Generally speaking you should have a functioning military by the time your population is 80 though.

Thanks for the help. I realize that I should have a military, but my attempt at one failed. For some reason they decided they didn't like the idea of training and completely ignored the barracks I assigned them too. Not to mention the fact that as far as metals go I have lead, gold, silver, and copper. I have yet to find any metals with utilitarian value.

Copper can be used for armour, and both copper and silver are weapon-grade, even if lowest. (Except for blunt; silver and copper are best for that.)

And you may have forgotten to activate their schedule?

Well considering that the titan is made out of alexandrite, I'm not sure blunt weapons would be worth it. I suppose I could make them other weapons with it. I think I just might have them try and fight it off, if they live they'll be all the more experienced, and while they hold it off build fortifications in case they die.

Just turtle, and let the titan deal with goblin sieges for a few years. If they injure it a bit, with luck your military will be working by then and you can give it a whirl. If the kill it, so much the better.

Give your hammerer a silver war hammer and send him to fight it.

Did you set them on [active/training]

I'm guessing not.

1)Build a hanging platform connected to a lever controlled support that the beast must pass underneath to wreak its destruction on your fortress.
2)Lock dwarf in a room with said lever and assign the lever to him.
3)Open the gate and wait until the beast  is underneath the platform.
4)Pull lever to kill the beast!
5)Profit and dance! :D

Note: Make sure that the ground underneath your collapsing platform is solid, not hollowed out space with floors beneath it. If it is then your platform will not only crush the beast, but it will continue to plummet downwards through your fortress until it reaches solid ground again.
