I DID test it, actually. When I threw a vampire into the depths and it fought a fire-breathing forgotten beast.

Well, three vampires.

They seemed to ignite but not actually take damage from it, only dying when thrown to a wall.

That's easy, just make a danger room with a cistern below and floor grates. Assign your dwarf to a squad with no armor, have him go in, he'll get poked a bit in the danger room, let the blood mix with the water and build a well. Then assign the dwarves you want vamped to burrow in that area and you have your vampire army.

I thought I read somewhere that someone tried it, but the water that is carried up in the well doesn't contain vampire blood....
