playing with dwarfen lifespan
« on: March 21, 2012, 09:05:22 am »

So I changed the min-max lifespan of dwarfes to 300-900 years (and also reduced the time needed to reach adulthood to 7 years). Starting a new Fortress I choose a baron and finally got a queen, which had 17 and 25 children respectively. Yet non of those would ever arrive at my fortress ( Going trough legends I found that dwarfs now often have 25 - 30 children but basically all of them die quiet fast after just af view years with very few exceptions. ... Is this due to limitations to pop. caps in world generation? Might there be a way to reduce the number of births but increase the change of dwarfs to survive for longer periods of time?

Itīs just that I like the idea of big dwarfen families or clans living in my forts. Thx for any information concerning this.

Try gening larger worlds, as dwarves usually go extinct on smaller worlds. Being over the population cap usually only prevents dwarven children from growing.
