I'm still slightly bemused and somewhat horrified that my most successful 40d fortress actively included a baby drowning device.
And yes, the urge to send out the demolition team during a siege is almost overwhelming.

Fortunately in my current fortress, I seem to have hit the number-of-children cap, with new dwarves only being born when another dwarf dies.

I still butcher any and all newborn kittens mind you.

Don't let Toady find out or he'll nerf the value of dwarf child bone crafts.
Or make children into invincible NPCs, like in Elder Scrolls games.
And nobody wants that.  >:(

I don't mean to alarm you, but it appears that your Dwarves are all in fact elephants.

Well, let's say you're going away from Earth on huge spaceship and suddenly shit goes wrong and you have Super Mutants. Social Experiments prepared them for this.

I'm fairly confident that within 10 minutes of any version that gives children invincibility this forum would have a thread dedicated to finding a solution. And within a week we would have multiple workarounds.

Toady would have made children invulnerable already if he didn't liked it.

But hey, this is a fantasy world generator. What's a fantasy world generator with invulnerable children ? Vulnerable children make good drama.

Seriously i think there is a bit of a lack in dwarven'ness in Bay12Fourm at the moment i mean com'on.

We all talk about how zombies are hard and cant be stopped without pitting them and whatever else we are proud about beating.

But we bitch and moan about kids all the time? i don't get it lol, they are just another challenge??

I saw this in past forts. It's too bad my current fort had the first two migrant waves with 0 children.   :o

Thats the exact meaning of dwarfyness. A fifteen thousand foot tall FB with syndromes that instantly rot your dwarves into zombie-husks with lightening breath is like so passe. But kittens and babies? Armageddon my friend.

This is actually the most efficient way to corral them.

If Toady made children invulnerable, someone would turn an army of them loose on the HFS within a day.

I have actually used dwarven child labour to build masonry.  It's kinda sad to see dozens of children building walls and floors while their parents (the actual fort masons, more often than not) are on break in the dining hall.

Is there any way to remove the labor from adult dwarves?  I like the idea of it being an exclusively child duty.

Burrow restrictions. The reason children do it is because it's not really a labor.
