How do you tell if a region is evil or not...?

... after embark. It seems like the region is just another normal embark, despite the fact that I'm pretty sure it said 'Sinister' at embark. No dead shrubs or anything.

Are there no visual signs directly after embark?

EDIT : Nevermind, it's raining goblin blood ;3

Sinster ones are quite tame, from what I've experienced. I still got evil rain in those.

Then you should abandon, find a Terrifying biome, and watch as your Dwarves get slaughtered within 5 minutes of embark.

Question on the goblin blood rain... Is your whole embark on the evil biome? If not, does the goblin blood restrict itself only to the evil area, or does it happen over the whole map?

I recently embarked on an evil lake. It got a "vile mucus" rain that caused nausea, fever, and bruising wherever it touched the skin - but it only ever fell in the lake, not on land.

So yes, evil weather phenomena are limited to the evil biome portions of the map, in my experience.
