Strategy Games I Should Buy
« on: March 15, 2012, 08:59:32 pm »

Hey guys I would put this in other games, but it is not about a specific game. So that made me think it should go here.(if I'm not right can someone move it over there?).

Any way I have thoroughly enjoyed EU: Rome and it's expansion packs, was considering geting Victoria II expansion, but decided to postpone it until they release patchs and update mods and such. What I would like to ask is does anyone know of any good strategy games out recently? Most of the good old ones I already have.

I'd still say it'd go better in Other Games. Thread creators can move their own threads, incidentally; check the action bar.

I'm afraid I can't help with the subject matter, though.

Obviously EU3 if you only have Rome. Also any of the Total War series are good.

A spambot with 177 posts asking for product information rather than providing it?

On another forum I'm on, we've had a spambot request information about relieving the worse parts of That Time of the Month- though the high post count does seem to make that invalid.

More importantly, there's no links anywhere. If it is a spambot, it's apparently genuinely interested in discussing strategy game recommendations with us.

Menstruationbot didn't have any links either.

I mean, I believe you. Just noting.

I'm not sure if I'd say EUIII is 'recent', but it certainly has an extensive established modding culture. Crusader Kings 2 is pretty recent and it's good if you like that sort of stuff. Not sure what games you're familiar with, but Total War games should fit the bill. Shogun 2 for recent games while Medieval 2 was, I dare say, the last with superb modding.
For WWII simulations, you might want to look into Hearts of Iron series (as a Paradox title it's similar to EU series). I prefer Arsenal of Democracy (commercially released heavily modded HoI2) over vanilla HoI3. Haven't looked that much into HoI3 modding to know if there's something to match AoD.
Then there's the Civ series and their plethora of mods. At least Civ IV has a bunch of decent mods out there.

If you like RTS Halo Wars for Xbox is great, Sins of A Solar Empire for PC is pretty good to, but if you like micromanagement (TO THE MAX) get Star Ruler, very fun game, but it online.

It has building space ships :3 I wuv my anti fighter/ long range laser station

Ohoh my subject!

If you're really interested in strategy games you should really look into Supreme Commander & Forged Alliances. Supreme commander 2 set me off heavily and ruined it, it basically turned a great RTS game into a very fast paced strategy game which is not what i wanted but wee.

Further up my list we have any of the total war series, i especially liked Medieval total war with expansions but Shogun : Total War wasn't bad either.

We of course have the AOE: Series which show a smaller scale strategy game compared to total commander but still very good for it's type.

You could always try civilizations 3 or 5, i personally thought the rest sucked but that's my opinion.

If you like more building and less fighting u could try pretty much any of the Settlers series , i pretty much loved them all. or Anno 1404 or Anno 2073 or something.

Like someone else mentioned here earlier SOASE is another great RTS game in space, i liked it very much and it has shown me something new.

This should get u started. Of course i could mention many more but just ask.

Interesting... I thought Civ 3 and 5 were the weak entries in the series. I'd recommend 4, but since it's old and mainstreamy you probably have it already.

There are some excellent SF 4x games. My pick would be Aurora, Galactic Civilization is also very good and less geared towards masochists.

I'm a little baffled by the opening post - there are enough good strategy games to last one a lifetime... heck, even Master of Orion and Master of Magic remain quite playable.

Not recent, but highly recommended would be Ground Control 1 & 2. Age of Wonders and Heroes of Might and Magic 3 are also sure to be fun. Universe at War would be good to pick up if you can find it in a discount bin. It had some bugs and flaws, but also some awesomely different races and GIANT FUCKING ROBOTS UP YO BASE!
