Spinal_Taped has, I am told, met an end as the first of our people to die. Hardly a fitting end for a brave mogun, nor an auspicious beginning for our would-be new home. I pray to Shigos that we'll get safely into the underground and survive until the first wave of reinforcements arrive. Collecting the surface flora is a daunting task, as readily as the monstrous undead slew my compatriot; I must ready myself, that I might fall into dreamless decomposition on death, rather than rising to plague my companions should I fall victim to the horrors of this land.

you mean elves with loads of stone loaded onto their backs while walking on their hands with dwarves holding their legs to guide them?

Aval decrees that a hospital be built as tribute, in memory of Spinal_Tapped and in honor of himself. To his followers Aval assigns the quest of euthanizing the undead blight. He recommends a method for totally destroying them so as to leave no part in which the tormented conscious can exist enslaved.
Build unto Aval this hospital as a temple of Healing and receive His blessing.

The bureaucrat Frogwarrior, on the other hand, will have none of this "exterminating the undead" thing when they can be weaponized instead. ^__________^

Blasphemy!

Reudh, god of Industry, decrees that stoneworking be a primary method of income for the burgeoning mogun fortress, and that one in ten such crafts shall be offered as tribute to his temple - a Bridge that Raises and Falls, or a Dwarven Atom Smasher.

There will always be more undead, but for now, we need to cleanse the landscape for the sake of establishing a fortress worth protecting with said weaponized undead.

I vote for cutting our losses and focusing on 1) basic infrastructure 2) basic defenses 3) attracting migrants in the next few seasons.

Those who have studied their religions know that Avuz, fond of the form of a large female rat (or a small demon), and associated with caverns and earth (and holes!  Avuz -is- the most hole-y god), is rather well known for having fairly simple demands.

Avuz is fond of those who seek shelter in the ground, and thinking for a moment about the protective and concealing value of any cavern or even a simple hole, even as small as just poking one's finger into loose soil or setting a few rocks to lean against each other with some partially concealed space sheltered by them, is enough to grant at least a touch of her attention.

Those caught far from shelter can even evoke a desperate prayer through simply grabbing a handful of dirt and concealing it within their hand while they pray to her - the act of 'hiding dirt' is a holy act as well, reciprocating the protection the earth offers by protecting some earth in turn.  Avuz's worshippers commonly have small stashes of dirt or dust hidden among their personal effects, be that a trace of dirt in their boots that is never fully shaken out or a few 'dustbunnies' under the bed that are never cleaned away.

Small offerings of a single meal of food are sometimes offered to Avuz, especially as thanks for help given.  Avuz's help often comes in the form of coincidence and small shifts of luck; enemies chasing you may suddenly become distracted by something else and overlook you; bad moods and small illnesses suddenly gone after spending a few moments sitting in a quiet, sheltered place and thinking of this god.

For every trouble under the sun, there is an answer, or there is none.
If there is one, then seek until you find it.
If there is none, then never ever mind it.

The intervention handed by the god of Industry, Reudh, is useful and practical. Reudh most often manifests, when he chooses to- however rarely- is the form of a humanoid flame, with bright wings. To look directly at Reudh is considered foolish- the divine light given off by Reudh is far too bright to be viewed safely by most mogun.
When a Mogun goes 'Fey', they have witnessed this humanoid flame with glowing bright wings in their mind, and it has inspired them. This divine gift creates a craft like none other... however not all mogun can stand to view Reudh in their mind and hence go insane.

To pray to Reudh involves the sacrifice of hand-made crafts- any crafts so long as they were produced by mogun living together are considered holy. Be they made from stone, or metal, or wood- it does not matter, so long as they are properly offered to his temple.

The help that Reudh gives is usually not seen, however it most often takes the form of slight increases in creativity and hence the quality of output- this is most often seen in those mogun who become legendary workers. They often bear the Mark of Reudh on their left hand - a small image of a hammer striking an anvil, or a chisel striking stone.

The followers of Reudh need no more than consider an idea and feel a presence touch their mind, bestowing the visited with the ability to create objects much better than they would normally.

Reudh's wrathful side can be invoked when those who would be known as Building Destroyers live up to their name, or when mogun who cannot control themselves and throw crafts or destroy buildings.

The Wrath of Reudh takes the form of a solid obsidian column consuming the offender, and is often instant death to those so consumed- they simply seem to disappear and are replaced by the cooled black glass.

((For building destroyers, i guess use a random number generator to determine if Reudh will intervene, ie. he has a 50% chance of consuming a building destroyer who comes alone and destroys a building, or 15% for multiple building destroyers sieging together - like if six goblins have six mounts who are all BDs, who all destroy a building/road etc. each, there is a 5% chance to consume the offender for the first building, 15% for the second, 25% for the third, and so on up until 50%.

If an insane mogun destroys a building, he or she shall be considered by his profession.

If said mogun has had a productive life producing crafts and has obeyed Reudh, then Reudh may take pity and only consume them 10% of the time. If they are of a profession that is not crafting, then Reudh will consume them 75% of the time.

Finally, if Reudh's Temple is destroyed by an insane mogun, then the offending mogun shall be consumed by the column of obsidian, and one drop of the Earth's Blood to be dropped near him. This is obviously to be avoided.))

This black glass, this obsidian may be mined out and used to make a new craft, redeeming the offender if they were a mogun and allowing a memorial slab to be used. If the obsidian is not mined out, the memorial shall not be allowed.

((Hopefully this isn't too restrictive.))

I shall incarnate myself in Kurol Morulethas Kast Atham, god of art.

Because that is very close to food and agriculture.

I shall give my followers the urge to write poetry, decide that it is mediocre, tear it up, throw it away, and feel bad about what they have done without ever actually telling anyone about the poetry or having judgement from someone other than themselves.

Imagine you're driving a car. Push the gas pedal to the floor. Close your eyes. Remain this way for ten minutes while turning the wheel at whim. This is Dwarf Fortress.
I don't mean to alarm you, but it appears that your Dwarves are all in fact elephants.
