So I recently promoted my expedition leader's romantic interest to hammerer and sheriff (I figure nepotism is alive and well among the dorfs, plus I like the guy).  I've noticed he didn't turn noble purple and doesn't seem inclined to go fetch the hammer I have sitting about.  Is this normal now?  Do hammerers wait until a crime occurs to 'activate' and go fetch their head-squasher?  Do sheriff and hammerer perhaps not play well together?

Dont mix them together. Problems occur where the hammerer portion will conflict with the sheriff portion and then you get message spammed and no work is done. So you must have them separated.

Damned annoying in my opinion. If somewhat realistic.

Wait, making the hammerer the sheriff will stop beatings? Interesting.

The hammerer needs to be put into the Captain of the Guard's squad and assigned a uniform with a hammer, in order to pick up a hammer.  I haven't had much chance to test it beyond that.

IIRC the hammerer never "pick" the hammer, he hauls it only when there is a pending beating.
