Kings consort but no king?

Is that supposed to happen? I thought the kings consort arrived with the king so imagine my surprise when my fortress that hasn't even reach 100k wealth or adamantine had the consort arrive. However i waited a few minutes and there was no king? Is this a bug or just something that happened?

Oh and now that i checked again. It's a definite the king hasnt shown up and also the consort isn't of the opposite gender. Is this just a noobie question im asking or is this not supposed to happen?

That's actually a bug that was fixed in version 0.34.03 - the king consort simply arrived as a normal migrant. If you're not running the latest version, you really should upgrade.

Oh i see. Well thank you for notifying me, however i don't want to give up this fortress just yet so when it falls i think i'll get the latest version

What version was your fortress created with? You can safely upgrade from 34.02 to 34.04 for example. Savegames are compatible and you get less bugs.

34.02 but i heard that 34.05 isn't compatible with previous version saves?

Looking at the post on it, it should be compatible, apparently old saves get a few error messages from an eyelid bug but they run fine.
