Warrior Cats mod
« on: March 17, 2012, 07:38:33 pm »

Hi all! This is my first posted mod, but I've helped with some others before. I really want to get my 11-year old sister to play, so I'm modding in Warrior Cats from her favorite book series.
So far, I've just got RiverClan cats, since they can fish. My question is, how can I do hunting? Should I have a fresh-kill pile workshop that can be worked to produce meat, or should I have one that processes vermin remains into meat? If you though Kobold Camp was hard... (Hint: Badger sieges, Bulldozer Megabeasts, etc.)

I remember an old "Cat Mod" for 40d, would be interesting to see it back (aka this mod)

For hunting I'd think would be the same "Kill deer, butcher it." but for the vermin idea, Kobold camp has some reactions for turning vermin/remains(fresh or rotten) into meat. But a custom workshop is used in it, You could easily use the Kitchen to do that (that vanilla workshop can accept custom reactions)

also will these cats be able to use their paws like hands (redwall series animals) or is this just normal cats being trained for war/hunting?

You know, its funny. I have been waiting for someone to do a talking animal mod for ages. I expected Redwall, or preferably, Watership down. Warrior Cats? Never once. Gunna download this and see how it is.

"Kill deer, butcher it."

Deer? Kill a deer as a cat? What's this I don't even...

To make this a good mod, I'd imagine a large effort in total conversion. Are cats going to be able to dig into rock? Or at all? Will the names be all weird? Cuz even if you mod around the language file, the names might still be in the same format, right? So you'd have weird names like, for example, 'Clawshade Brambleyellow' instead of something that might be in the Warrior Cat books.

I really want to get my 11-year old sister to play the game about alcoholic mentally handicapped midgets being torn into shreds by giant spiders or their own beserking children, rotting alive from secretions of horrific beasts from the deep, or burning alive while dying of thirst and hunger unable to raise from the bed due to spinal injury.
If you though Kobold Camp was hard... And I'm going to make this mod for a little girl to be more difficult than a most hardcore mod for a game that not every school graduate can cope with.
I'm modding in Warrior Cats from her favorite book series.oh, and I'm going to replace alcoholic mentally handicapped midgets with a cute characters of children book series she adores.
The child care meaning is really distortingly twisted in this place. Seriously, dr. Inhaat, just get her MLP, XJ9 or As told by Ginger series if you need her to stop pestering you for a while or want to have something that is interesting to both of you.
Oh, and I know there is a cat bleeding to death from it's paw being ripped away by giant beaver in the book, but still, that is children literature and this is DF.

well, Watership Down would be much better, because there are cute little bunnies ripping eachother to shreds IN THE BOOK.

Children have to learn of violence sometime, else they will be utterly tramatized when they witness something utterly horrible (like a pulpy mass left over after a car crash) it is horrible but at least they won't need therpy after (or at least too much) heck alot of the old disney movies had violence in them, or really disturbing stuff. I knwo the Brave little toaster have me nightmares when I was a kid. I never looked at inanimated objects the same until I was 13

Plus it's only text violence. It's not like tahujdt is introducting his little sister to GTA where senseless violence, drugs, sex what have you is displayed in 3d and audio. If tahujdt wanted he could rename and recolor blood to something else, say "fur" of course a "pool of cat fur" looks a bit odd, but better then "pool of McFluffy's vital fluids"

Besides if his sister is reading a book with "warrior cats" thats bound to have some sort of blood or violence. [/OffTopic]

"Kill deer, butcher it."

well unless he meant the hunting caste still has VERMIN_HUNTER then I guess just reactions to process vermin/remains into meat would be better suited
But i have no idea if toady has made it so VERMIN_HUNTER doesn't force the creature to only have to eat vermin, then I guess it's the trapper skill so they can catch vermin better. Also remove NOT_BUTCHERABLE from most vermin to allow captured ones to be butchered at the butchers shop

Not only that, but imagine if, for example, you find a cat. Or, gods forbid, a snake or a eagle or a ferret or something. Instead of putting the military on high alert, you have to carfully plane out your next few days so that your little rabbits will not get picked apart. It's a shame that the grazer tag is wonky for sentinents, otherwise having a entire fort dependent on grass would be highly amusing.

From what I fondly remember, there is a wonderful part of one book where a cat is injured so badly that it dies from bloodloss. Then, because of the freaky magic they have, it revives itself and dies yet again. As in, it dies no less than nine times from a single sputtering wound to the neck. Semimortality sucks hard.
