Died of thirst...(34.02)
« on: March 12, 2012, 01:36:21 am »

despite over 2k booze and multiple active wells in the dining room he was in.

not the first time it has happened 2 times thus far though  on this map alone.

is this a bug? I have not had this happen before 34.xx that I recall

my military is not set to carry any food or drink with them while on duty.

I am refusing to move up in versions until DonuTopia falls (officially named Silverydabbles)

does

death of friend + tantrum = dead of thirst as well?

Sounds like the tantrumming interrupted an already dehydrated dwarf from drinking. Tough luck.

Yeah, dwarves take hunger strikes WAY too seriously. Especially over paradoxical reasons.

"By Armok's beard! I'm so hungry! I'm outraged at how starving I am! I'm going to throw the food I just grabbed because I'm so hungry! Barrels of booze? I'm so thirsty! Let's spill those over!...

melancholy strikes a lot during tantrums, after a tantrum spiral has burned out a good third of the "survivors" are melancholy or raving mad and will eventually die of thirst.  It is possible something was interrupting it, but I doubt it (or you would have noticed/gotten a combat log). Friends died, sanity snapped, hunger strike--boom. dead dwarf

so, hopefully it IS a bug that will be adressed someday.

starvation and dehydration seems an undwarfy method of suicide for severe depression.

half gainer into the magma would be better.

It's not exactly that they hunger strike and suicide. It's that they get so pissed off they go insane. If you go berserk, the overseer can kill you. If you go stark raving mad or melancholy, you are too nuts to know to eat or drink and die (thirst usually kills first).

The other time this can happen is if you run out of buckets and your malingerers in the hospital don't get water because they can't move.

I've seen trapped dehydrated dwarves get freed and make a beeline for the booze, then die of thirst while in the middle of the drink job (or at least at the booze stockpile)

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

Was he in the hospital?
I've had quite a few dwarves die of thirst or starvation while laid up, even though my medical corps have no other duties apart from medical ones. Same for prisoners. Yet the fortress has a working well with clean water, plentiful booze and dwarves with only medical skills active.

My dorfs were not trapped, or in the hospital, just multiple tantrums then calming, up n down then boom dead.

Been having more death than i usually have, even with invasions turned off for less interruptions while DonuTopia is built.

Its truly been fun.
