Undead Sieges
« on: March 19, 2012, 10:30:58 am »

If my dwarves clad in steel armour with decent training come face to face with the horror that is an Undead swarm, how does it work?  Will the dwarves eventually be able to cut apart the horde and reach, and slay, the necromancer should the necromancer not be given direct access to other body parts and such the like?  ie if my refuse pile is behind several walls, can he animate stuff in it or does he need line of sight?  Also, do undead creatures animate things or is it just necromancers?

Just necromancers animate the dead, but they do not have to be visible (ie. hidden for ambush, or caged event)
No idea if they need a L.O.S. tho.

In my experience anyone with a little fighting experience can easily win 1vs1, but the tide easily turns.
Getting to a necromancer can be really tricky w/o having to slay the undead.

An exception is.. Vampires makes excellent necromancer hunters, as they're not attacked by the undead

Trained Vampire squads sound brilliant.  Although I'm considering sniper units for necros.  It's a shame you can't get troops to sneak in combat!  XD  My hunters would be epic assassins!

Granted, nothing's stopping you from making an army of hunters. Just release a wild animal in the direction of the nearest necromancer and...

afaik necros auto-raise undead in a radius around them in fortress mode. It's a passive effect and it can be done while sneaking, which has caused the downfall of a number of my forts. I would kill all the undead, roam around the map, never find the necro, and put up with wave after wave of zombies until all my soldiers died. One time, the necro even snuck past my people into the refuse pile. That ended things fast.

I never embark near towers now. I would be fine with necros if they couldn't raise while not seeable.

Just make a bridge, and some fortifications with marksdwarfs on them.

Watch as they get pinned to the ground with bolts :D
