Wow, I didn't realize this thread was so popular.
I've noticed a few interesting things about my vampires.
- They don't get bad thoughts from being deprived of food/booze
- As long as I don't let them out of their room, they won't be punished for the deaths I've attributed to them
- They get good thoughts from having their punishments delayed
- They've begun to make social relationships with each other
All of these factors combined mean that they'll likely never become sad/enraged, and insanity is unlikely, barring strange moods (can vampires get strange moods?).
I can't really move them from their room, at least not without losing a few dwarves in the interim. The last time I tried, I lost more than three dwarves when the vampires scattered to feed. I could set up a drop-trap, though the location of the room will make it a bit of a hassle (it's on the top level of my fort, just barely below ground; I'd have to set up a safe zone on the surface in order to be able to drop things in).
I'm not likely to get any more vampires, as I've hit my population cap. It's possible that I may have another vampire (possibly more than one), but not likely. I can't be entirely sure, especially in all the confusion my last attempt to move the vampires caused. Deaths are still turning up, and while I'm pretty sure they were all caused by the known vampires, I can't be sure. I have noticed that the population count in the z-status screen will display an accurate count even before a death is discovered, which is interesting. That count has been stable for a while, which leads me to believe there aren't any loose vampires.
Yes, I know I could look through all my dwarves' descriptions to know for certain which are vampires, but that's not something I want to do for 205 dwarves.
