On the subject of Impossible hits...
« on: March 11, 2012, 11:35:23 pm »

I know it's supposed to be impossible for an adventurer to be able to hit an impossible hit; that is why they are called such. Actually, this claim is false. I have a 31.25 adventurer that I just couldn't make myself let go of because he's so badass: Onol Skullstower The Oily Whims Of Pointing. And he makes impossible shots on a regular basis. He used to not be able to. But Onol is a miner, and a persistent one. When sent to kill a bronze collosus, his first, (this being with him already having 200ish notable kills) he went straight to the thing's lair and heard it's challenge. He fought that thing for about 2 ingame days, whacking away at it with his <<<<<<<<<<copper pick>>>>>>>>>>, until he finally fractured it's legs enough that it fell over at the end of Day 1. I then set my dodge preferences to dodge, to gain shield skill as well, set combat preferences to strike, and stood next to it, holding down the arrow key, periodically being interrupted by the BC,s challenge. I picture it like the Terminator, still trying to punch my face in, even though I'd whacked off both it's hands and one toe at that point. When Onol got his leg shattered by the thing's pushing at it, I slept in the village that gave me the quest for a day to heal up and when I went back it was dead. Ah, well. Anyways, I attribute Onol being able to hit impossible shots to his fighting skill, which is currently 5600/19400. His mining skill stands at 5446 out of 5600. In case this story is decried as fake, I urge other people with super badass adventurers to come forth and confirm this story, or discuss as the will of the forums sees fit.

"Impossible" hits aren't actually impossible, this is common knowledge. "Impossible" is the name for the hardest to hit shots, and is meant to indicate that the average person won't hit it, but with sufficient skill, you can.

Yeah, they're really more nigh impossible hits, than impossible per se.

Yup, shot difficulty ratings don't take your accuracy into account, in my experience.

Cheating in a natural Legendary +XX (somewhere near the hundreds) fighter made almost all impossible shots possible to execute, so yeah, impossible means 'Nigh Impossible' instead of 'Totally Impossible'.

An impossible hit directed at a fellow legendary weapon lord will be what it says on the box. Directed at a dabbling stick fighter on the other hand, the above can be confirmed

On the topic of knocking off a BC's toe... That would be a neat thing to carry around. Like a lucky rabbit's foot, but with more effect. A real conversation piece.

My adventurers usually get murdered horribly before they can make impossible shots.

I'm actually disappointed that I can't make the poor thing's partial remains into yet another piece of jewlery(spelling?) for my overencumbered dwarf. Seriously, this guy has so many decorations on him, you'd think it would be impossible to move, but no, he can still wear 20+ rings on each finger. Someday I'll go back and get that toe.
